On 26 July 1994 a car bomb exploded outside the Israeli embassy in Kensington Palace Gardens, London. Later that evening, another car exploded outside Balfour House, Finchley, London. It later transpired that the two cars had false number plates of existing identical cars. In both cases, the name of "George" and "G.Davies" was given by the purchaser, who gave different false, non-existent addresses. The first of these cars, the Audi which exploded outside the Israeli Embasy, was bought by a man called Rida Mughrabi at a car auction in Milton Keynes on 15th June 1994.
To date, nothing else is known about the bombings. Several arrests were made in the first half of 1995. Four people of Palestinian origin were put on trial in October 1996. This ended with the wrongful convictions of Miss Samar Alami and Mr Jawad Botmeh for "conspiracy to cause explosions" and their sentencing to 20 years of imprisonment. Both from the first moment to date protest their INNOCENCE. The campaign against the injustice done to Samar and Jawad is issuing this open appeal to anyone who has any information to come forward. Information about Rida Mughrabi is central to this appeal. Any information about this man who was using the name "Rida Mughrabi" (or Reeda Moughrabi) in 1994 and 1995. He is believed to have lived in the Birmingham area at one time, and to have been involved in business (probably import/export), and/or to have studied in the area previously. He may have been at one time married to a British citizen. He is thought to be of Palestinian origin, and to have lived and worked in different countries in the Middle East after the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982. Anyone with such information is urged to contact the campaign at: Postmaster@freesaj.org.uk or BM FOSA, London WC1X 3NN or Mrs Gareth Peirce, at Birnberg Peirce & Co., 14 Inverness Street, London NW1 7HJ, UK Tel: 00-44-207-911 0166 or - Fax 00-44-207-911 0170 All contact and information will be treated with utmost confidentiality. Background information (1) The silver grey Audi 100 that exploded outside the Israeli Embassy carried the number of a genuine Audi: D201 BGU; its original number plate had been B49 GNU. This car was bought on 15th June 1994 at a car auction in Milton Keynes by a man giving the name George. That man was Rida Mughrabi and he has never been traced. (2) The Red Triumph Acclaim, which exploded outside Balfour House, originally carried the number A610 YOC. This had been changed to the number of an already existing Triumph: A49 UYK. This car was bought at a car auction to Birmingham on 13th June 1994 by a man giving a similar name, G Davies, to that used by Rida Mughrabi when he bought the Audi. (3) Someone posing as Richard Adams from Gelpke and Bates (G & B), an established Surrey company, placed a telephone order for a large quantity of chemicals from Hays Chemicals in Birmingham, and requested that they be collected on May 27, 1994. On June 2, 1994, a person collected the chemicals, giving the name of "George Davies", also very similar to the name used by Rida Mughrabi to buy the Audi bomb car. He also gave the old G & B address, and the vehicle number of G562 YOY. It transpired later that G & B never ordered those chemicals, and that they had no Richard Adams. The vehicle number given was that of a genuine blue Ford Transit van belonging to a butcher in Cricklewood. |
